The four-year-old Chennai boy, who was struggling for his life after a multiple organ failure and also tested positive for swine flu, finally succumbed to his diseases at a private hospital here on Monday morning.

Sanjay Balakrishnan was admitted to the hospital when he suffered kidney failure early last week. He was already a chronic asthma patient, said doctors. While at the hospital, his condition worsened, and was put on a ventilator and dialysis unit by doctors at Mehta Hospital in Chennai.

A family of five, including a six-month-old infant, was quarantined at the airport in Chennai for suspected swine flu symptoms after they arrived from the US in the early hours on Saturday.

Airport officials said, Muralitharan (44), wife Sarika (35) and their three daughters, aged five and three and the baby were found to be suffering from cough, cold and fever, after they were examined by a special medical team stationed at the airport.

Seven people who flew into the city from Singapore and the US Saturday were quarantined for exhibiting swine flu symptoms.

"Seven people in a single day is not a major sign of worry. A Large number of people from different countries land in Tamil Nadu. We have screened around 470,000 travellers for swine flu symptoms during the last two months," V.K. Subburaj, the state health secretary, said.
